When does fall begin?
This year, September 22 is the first day of fall, also known as the autumnal equinox. The Farmer’s Almanac says that the spring equinox will happen at 8:44 a.m. EDT in the Northern Hemisphere.
There are two days that you could actually count as the first day of fall. The autumnal equinox on September 22 marks the start of astronomical fall. Some meteorologists also think that September 1 is the first day of fall because that’s when temperatures start to drop each year.
What is the equinox of autumn?
The National Weather Service says that equinoxes only happen twice a year. They happen when the Earth’s axis is turned neither toward nor away from the sun, making it nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness.
The vernal equinox, which is the other equinox, takes place in the spring.
The spring equinox and the summer equinox are both real. At this point, the Earth leans the most either toward or away from the sun.
