In a statement, the U.S. coach Steve Kerr said, “We have an embarrassment of riches on this roster, that’s the best way to put it. I mean these guys are all champions, All-Stars, Hall of Famers, however you want to put it. So the whole thing is are we committed to the goal? That’s it. That’s it.”
Kevin Durant came off the bench and scored 14 points, and Derrick White scored 10 points while showcases that included three steals and a block.

The game changed when Durant, White, Adebayo, Jrue Holiday, and Anthony Edwards joined the team. That group has a lot of great defenders and still a lot of attacking power.
In a statement, Adebayo said, “I just think Steve trusts us, I feel like he looks at the benches, that spark, to come off the bench and really give us a boost, and we did that tonight.”
With Devin Booker’s help, that U.S. team went on a 23–4 run in the first and second quarters that pretty much decided the game. In the second half, when South Sudan, led by Nuni Omot’s (24 points) and Bul Kuol’s (16 points) hot shooting, cut the American leaders’ lead from 19 points to 10. This group played the same role. The bench then scored 16 points by the end of the third quarter.
Then James, Davis, and Booker, the stars, made plays down the stretch to keep the lead safe. Together, they scored 30 points.
