Can I still file taxes if I have crossed the deadline?

It is important to know that most taxpayers must file their federal tax returns by midnight local time on Monday, April 15 of this year. Therefore, next Monday is Tax Day, and people can still file their taxes on that day.

Since Patriot’s Day is celebrated on April 15 and Emancipation Day is celebrated on April 16, some taxpayers who live in states where this holiday is celebrated the most will have until April 17 to file their returns.

A special case allows some states to file their taxes much later than the Wednesday next week.

In the past year, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and West Virginia have suffered severe weather conditions and extreme financial stress.

FEMA has declared these states disaster areas and given them until June 17 to declare themselves disasters.

The IRS has already confirmed that 19 million taxpayers will apply for extensions in 2024, if you weren’t in one of these disaster areas.
