- What Is IAS?
IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service, which is one of the most coveted and prestigious civil services in India. - Super IAS 40
According to reports, the government of Mizoram has made a decision to support the coaching of 40 candidates from the state who are aspiring to take the civil services examination, as there is a severe lack of IAS officers.
According to officials, more than 500 individuals took an entrance test last Friday for the “Super IAS 40” program, which is being offered by the Mizoram government to sponsor the coaching of 40 individuals who aspire to take the UPSC civil services exam. The Mizoram government aims to address the scarcity of IAS officers by supporting the coaching of these 40 UPSC aspirants from the state for the civil services examination.
According to them, individuals who pass the entrance exam will receive training at prestigious institutions in Delhi, and the state government will cover the expenses. The Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) is responsible for managing and executing this initiative.
Vanlaltanpuia, who is both the MYC chairman and MLA, announced at a press conference on Thursday that a total of 575 candidates have registered to take the entrance test. The exams were conducted in five centers within the state as well as in Delhi. The results of the written test will be announced on June 27, followed by personal interviews on June 28 and 29. The final list of selected candidates will be published on July 1. Vanlaltanpuia added that candidates who obtain a minimum of 50% marks in the written test will be shortlisted for the personal interview.
According to the chairman, individuals who are selected for the programme will be prohibited from taking other competitive exams administered by either the central or state government until they have taken at least two UPSC prelims. The MYC will closely observe their advancement, and if their behaviour is not up to par, the government may terminate their sponsorship or request that they repay any fees.
According to the statement, only deserving students will receive full sponsorship, and if there are no qualified candidates, the government may not occupy all 40 spots. The program will fund a one-year coaching course at Delhi’s Vajiram & Ravi, Vision IAS, and ALS IAS for 40 participants.
In 2020-2021, the Mizoram government initiated the ‘Super IAS 20’ scheme to fund students for a six-month intensive course in Delhi. Unfortunately, not one of the chosen participants succeeded in passing the 2021 civil service exams.
Mizoram, despite being the second most literate state in India, has not been successful in producing a significant number of IAS officers. The most recent person from the state to pass the exam and become an IAS officer was Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau in 2014, who is the daughter of former state chief secretary Vanhela Pachuau.
