NASA Unveils Stunning Never-Before-Seen Images: On Tuesday, the world’s most powerful X-ray telescope released images of cosmic objects never seen before.
NASA released these breathtaking images in honor of the 25th anniversary of the launch of Chandra X-Ray Observatory.
An X-ray image taken by Chandra shows a range of phenomena, from remnants of supernovae to nebulae thousands of light years away, to the Milky Way galaxy’s center.

Chandra collected nearly 25,000 images during its time in space.
According to NASA’s photo gallery, Chandra observed cosmic objects for thousands of hours.
Over the course of 20 years, the telescope took 64 days and 370 observations to capture an image of the Milky Way’s center.
Other images show the vivid colors of nebulae, such as the Cat’s Paw Nebula in Taurus, which lies 4,370 light years away.
The first image shows Cassiopeia A, a remnant of 340 years ago’s supernova, while the second shows Jupiter as seen by Chandra for nearly 10 hours.

NASA also began the Hubble Space Telescope, the Spitzer Space Telescope, and the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory in the 1990s. None of these were small projects. July 23, 1999, was the day that Chandra was sent into space.
When Chadra was being built, scientists didn’t even know about dark energy or exoplanets. In a news release, Pat Slane, director of the Chandra X-ray Center at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, said.
Chandra follows an elliptical orbit around Earth on its 64-hour orbit, traveling as close as 6,000 miles and as far as 86,400 miles from the Earth.
According to NASA, Chandra has four pairs of mirrors that are the smoothest and cleanest ever made.
The mirrors focus incoming X-rays onto a half-hair-wide spot, where Chandra’s science instruments can capture and record them.
