JD Vance India Connection: Donald Trump, the former president of the United States and the Republican nominee for president has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance to be his running mate in the November election. Vance will be the next Vice President of the United States if Trump wins.

The best-selling book about what’s wrong with the White working class, Hillbilly Elegy, was written by JD Vance. He has an Indian parent. 39-year-old Vance is married to Indian-American Usha Chilukuri Vance, whose family is from Andhra Pradesh.

The possible second lady has been with Vance through his time in politics and in the community. She works as a court clerk and as a defense lawyer.

JD Vance India Connection: About Usha Chilukuri Vance

A biography from the Munger, Tolles & Olson law firm says that Usha was raised in a suburb of San Diego, California. At  San Diego education and hard work were valued highly. Some of his academic accomplishments include being the Managing Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology and the Executive Development Editor of The Yale Law Journal.

After four years of very busy social activities at Yale, she continued her studies as a Gates fellow at Cambridge, where she joined liberal and left-wing groups. In 2014, she had signed up as a Democrat.

How did Usha Chilukuri and JD Vance meet?

The New York Times reports that Usha and JD Vance met at Yale Law School and got married in Kentucky in 2014. A Hindu priest led a private ceremony. They have three children together.

The senator has said for years that his wife is a big part of his success. This goes back to when they were both in law school at Yale University, where Usha Vance also earned a bachelor’s degree.

In his 2016 book “Hillbilly Elegy,” JD Vance called her his “Yale spirit guide” because she helped him get through life at Yale, where they met.

“She knew the questions I didn’t even know to ask, and she always pushed me to look for chances I didn’t know were out there,” he wrote.
