Indra Bahadur Rai Biography: Indra Bahadur Rai was an Indian writer and reviewer who lived in Darjeeling, India. He was born on February 3, 1927, and died on March 6, 2018. He wrote in the Nepali language.

During his career, he wrote many essays, short stories, novels, and reviews. Some of his most well-known stories are Kheer and Raat Bhari Huri Chalyo.

He started a trend in Nepali literature with Ishwar Ballav and Bairagi Kainla. It was called Tesro Aayam. He won the first Sahitya Akademi Award for Nepali language in 1977.

Indra Bahadur Rai Wiki and Biography

Indra Bahadur Rai went to school in both Kurseong and Darjeeling. The first degree he got was from Calcutta University, and the second degree he got was in English from North Bengal University.

He worked as a teacher for a while at Darjeeling’s Turnbull High School. He was also an English teacher at St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling.

On top of that, he was the Vice Chairman of Darjeeling Municipality.

Indra Bahadur Rai Later Life

A famous Nepali author named I.B. Rai started writing literary reviews in 1950 and his first book, Aaja Ramita Cha, came out in 1964. After that, he started writing short stories. His first story came out in 1959, and his collection of thirty short stories, Vipana Katipaya, came out in 1960.

He became well-known in the dimensional literature movement, called Aayameli Andolan, starting in 1963. Along with Ishwor Ballav and Bairagi Kainla, they successfully added the third dimension, Tesro Aayam, to Nepali literature.

Rai’s most important works are taught at many universities in India for Nepali students.

He has been writing for more than 60 years and has won many awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Jagadambashri Puraskar, and the Agam Singh Giri Smriti Puraskar.

Rai’s varied writing style uses both old and new methods, and his works are about a lot of different subjects, making each one a unique and powerful work of literature.

He was married to Maya Devi Rai until she died on August 27, 2017. They had three children which includes a son and two girls.
