What is CSIR?

CSIR is the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. It is at the pan-India level and is India’s largest R&D organisation.
It has a vast network of 37 national laboratories, 39 advisory centres, 3 innovation complexes, and 5 units. CAIR was established in New Delhi in September 1942, it is funded by the ministry of science and technology and functions as autonomous body.

Centers for scientific and industrial research range from radio and astrophysics, oceanography, geophysics, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, genomics, and biotechnology to nanotechnology, mining, aeronautics, instrumentation, environmental engineering, information technology, and so on, covering a dynamic range of streams. It attracts important inventions and interventions not only in everyday life but also in the living environment, drinking water, food, health, non-agricultural, and agricultural sectors.
CSIR has a president, a three-year board of vice presidents, and an advisory board of 15 members.

Purpose of CSIR

The purpose of the CSIR is to conduct scientific and industrial research of national and governmental importance in various fields.
CSIR about to develop the antibody as part of new millennium India technology leadership initiative. These antibodies neutralise the patient’s COVID-19 virus. CSIR aims to elevate India to a global leadership platform by implementing and developing innovative methodologies and pathways for global scientific researchers, programmes, and issues.

The Goal of CSIR

  • Promoting, guiding, and coordinating scientific and industrial research in India
  • Establishment of a specialised institution system in each department
  • Emphasis on scientific-level issues in trade, etc.
  • Creation of awards for researchers and scholars
  • Conduct research under the council and utilise the results.
  • Establishment of research centres, organisations, study groups, institutions, etc. to promote research
  • Publication of research-related journals and academic papers
  • collection of data and use of research materials by other institutions or for other purposes.

Vision and Strategy Of CSIR

Focus on research and science to give the country global leadership and financially secure the country’s global future. Acquire a stable and high position in the growth stage of industrial science and use science for the future of the planet. Think globally as a cosmopolitan is main agenda of CSIR, CSIR aspires to foster international collaborations and partnerships with renowned research institutions, academia, and industries worldwide. These collaborations facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research projects, and access to global expertise, enhancing CSIR’s research capabilities and global impact.

On behalf of Dr. Shanti Swaroop. Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar is the recipient of the CSIR Award. The Scimago Institutions Ranking is a global assessment that recognizes CSIR as one of the international leaders in knowledge creation. CSIR recognizes the importance of nurturing and developing human resources in the field of scientific research and innovation. It aims to attract and retain top talent, provide opportunities for skill development, and create a conducive environment for the professional growth of its researchers and scientists.

Inherent Gyrotron: An electronic vacuum device capable of producing high power and high frequency radiation. Designed and developed for fusion reactors.

  • Heads Up Display (HUD) csir (National Aerospace Laboratory):
  • He made an important contribution by developing it for the Indian light fighter, Tejas.
  • HIV aids pilots in combat, aims guns, and provides in-flight support. Drishti Permeability Metre:
  • It is an innovative, visually active, native, low-cost system that provides pilots with information for safe landing, manages operations, and is also suitable for the airport category.

Energy and Environment

Solar Tree: A tree that requires little space to purify energy, designed by CSIR at his CMERI lab in Durgapur. The full form of CMERI is a central mechanical engineering research institute. Lithium Ion Batteries: The Karai Central Electronics Laboratory in Tamil Nadu has established the first domestic lithium manufacturing facility, including for defence, rail, and solar applications.

Agriculture

Medicinal and aromatic plants: enhancing the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in the country through the new technology of CSIR And through the development of other varieties of agro technology. Samba Mahsuri rice variety: improved bacterial blight resistance development by CSIR , Rice cultivar Muktishree for arsenic-contaminated areas: a different developed rice variety that restricts assimilation of arsenic within the permissible limit White fly resistance caught in variety: development of transgenic cotton LINE, which is resistant to white flies

Healthcare

JD vaccine for farm animals: this vaccine is commercialized for disease affecting sheep, goats, cows, cow and buffalo to immunise them and for the production of more milk and dairy products. Plasma gelsolin diagnostic kit for premature birth and related deaths, developed to diagnose premature birth Genomics and other technologies for enabling medical decisions have been developed to provide a platform for disease genomics to solve clinical problems.

Food and nutrition

Kasheer scanner: it is a new initiative by the CSIR CEERI Central Electronic Engineering Research Institute to detect the level of milk adulteration. Double-fortified salt, fortified with iodine and iron, helped with testing for addressing anemia in people. Anti-obesity DAG oil—oil enriched with diacylglycerol instead of conventional triacylglycerol—was developed.
Water

Equip Hire mapping of water scarcity areas: heliborne transient electromagnetic in surface magnetic technique

  • Understanding the special properties of Ganga water
  • Material for x-ray protection
  • Waste plastic becomes fuel.
  • The indelible mark
  • Skill development

CSIR uses state-of-the-art infrastructure and human resources to develop high-level skills,About 30 high-level skills with 5,000 candidates are launched under the programme. Areas covered by the skill development programme are pottery, maintenance of engineering, the internet of things,  agriculture , electroplating, metal finishing etc.
India has a pool of talented scientists and researchers who actively contribute to the research and development initiatives led by the CSIR. These experts bring their knowledge, skills, and experience to drive scientific discoveries and Some important CSIR labs are in Bhopal, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Dhanbad, Jammu,Dehradun Bengaluru, etc.
