Devotees who are crafting their own Lord Ganesha idol with love and affection should keep some important things in mind. While crafting Lord Ganesha, its crown, or “mukut,” is a very important element of the idol. The ‘mukt’ signifies good luck and wealth so make sure that you add it.
If devotees are buying Lord Ganesha from the market then the idol should be in a sitting position along with its partner ‘mouse’ and a few ‘modaks’. This is to remove all the negativity in your house.
Cover Lord Ganesha’s idol with a red cloth before entering the idol into your house.
While performing ‘sthapana’ of the Lord Ganesha idol, the lucky directions are east, west, or northeast.
People should welcome Ganpati Bappa to their homes with shankh, music, and a lot of spirit.
Devotees should welcome Lord Ganesha’s idol for 1.5, 3, 5, 7, 10, and 11 days and after that visarjan is done.

Don’ts during Ganesh Chaturthi
Lord Ganesha’s idol truck should not point to the right as it shows his stubborn attitude and harshness. The Lord Ganesha’s trunk should always be pointing to the left which shows success and good luck.
Someone should always be beside Lord Ganesha’s idol, it should not be left alone.
Never immerse the idol of lord Ganesha in water before performing aarti and puja.
After Ganesh stapana, you should not consume garlic, onions, or other spicy foods. It is advised to consume only satvic foods and offer them to Lord Ganesha first.
