CM Arvind Kejriwal sent to jail till April 15 as ED custody ends today: As a result of the money laundering case linked to Delhi’s excise policy, the Rouse Avenue court on Monday, April 1, sent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal into judicial custody until April 15.
After his ED custody ended today, the Delhi Chief Minister appeared in court.
In an interview with reporters before entering the courtroom, the AAP leader said, “The actions taken by the prime minister, in reference to his arrest, are not beneficial for the nation.”
In the hearing, ED sought 15-day judicial custody of Kejriwal, claiming he was “totally uncooperative”.
A court extended Kejriwal’s ED custody until April 1 after he was arrested on March 21. Kejriwal had been in ED custody since then. The investigative team filed a remand request claiming that they need more time to question the Delhi CM to confront him with other individuals. According to the ED, “statements made by some AAP Goa candidates are being recorded.”
In its remand application, the probe agency has accused the AAP leader of “being involved in the whole conspiracy of Delhi liquor scam, in drafting and implementing the policy, favoring and benefitting quid pro recipients of kickbacks, and subsequently using proceeds of crime generated from the scheduled offence in Goa Assembly election campaigns”.
Earlier on March 31, leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, and Tejashwi Yadav, organized a protest against Kejriwal’s ED arrest at Ramlila Maidan. Sunita Kejriwal, the Delhi CM’s wife, also attended the ‘Save Democracy’ rally.
