The Olympic Climbing Sports is divided into three different types of sport climbing:
- Bouldering: It is the first Olympic sport climbing in which participants try to climb up a 4.5-meter (nearly 15-foot) wall without ropes in a very short amount of time and as few tries as possible.
- Lead: The second game of Olumpic sport climbing is ‘lead’, in this game athletes have to climb up a 15-meter (about 50-foot) wall within in six minutes and with only one try.
- Speed: In this game, athlethes compete will another opponent and climb aganst a 15-meter wall with a five-degrees incline. Athletes have to climb faster than their opponent to win, this is a knockout round.
There is one difference in these Games and the Tokyo, it is that in Tokyo bouldering and lead climbing games are done in a combined while Speed climbing is done separately. This gives athletes a good opportunity to fous on their specialties.
However, the points system is also different from Tokyo . During the 2021, Olympic games the all the points of each game were added to get the total score. This scoring system keeps the speed-climbing game out of the equation and and only involves 200 points.
An athlete who move up the wall through different “zones” (5 points for the low zone, 10 points for the high zone), they earn points. They also earn 25 points for securing the top position.
A total of 20 men and 20 women participated in the bouldering and lead climbing.
In Speed climbing, there are 14 competitors for both men and women. Every climber takes part in two speed runs, each on a different wall.
