Most states let people who get Social Security use their own “My Social Security” account to ask for a new card. But you don’t usually need a Social Security card.

How to Apply for a Social Security Card?
Fill out the Social Security Card Application (Form SS-5) and bring an undated identification card with you if you visit the offices.
If you are charged for this application process, it is considered a federal crime. Please report anyone who tries to charge you to the Inspector General’s office at https://oig.ssa.gov/.
Social Security cards come in three types, all of which show your name and SSN. The first type shows only your name and Social Security Number, which allows you to work anywhere in the world.

This card is issued to U.S. citizens and people with lawful permanent residency status.

People in the United States of America can apply for their social security cards online. They can also go to their city’s social security office to submit their documentation.
Within 14 working days of approval, they will receive a Social Security Card with their number on it. A replacement card will not be charged if it is stolen or lost.
