Anita Nair Biography: Anita Nair (born January 26, 1966) is an Indian novelist who writes her works in English. She is well known for her books A Better Man, Mistress, and Lessons in Forgetting.

She has also published poetry, essays, short tales, mystery fiction, historical fiction, romance, and children’s books, such as Muezza and Baby Jaan: tales from the Quran.

Nair was born in Shoranur, Palakkad district, Kerala. Nair was schooled in Chennai (Madras) before returning to Kerala to get a BA in English Language and Literature.
Anita Nair Career
Anita Nair, an Indian author, started her career as the creative director of an ad business in Bangalore.
Her first work, Satyr of the Subway, earned her a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
Nair’s second book was published by Penguin India, and it was the first book by an Indian author published by Picador USA. Her first commercial writing was a piece she wrote for The Bangalore Monthly magazine.
Nair’s novels The Better Man and Ladies Coupé have been translated and published in 21 languages.
She has also written several children’s books about myths and stories, including The Puffin Book of Myths and stories.
Her essays about Kerala and poetry have appeared in The Poetry India Collection and the British Council Poetry Workshop Anthology.
Nair has also written many audiobooks, including A Field of Flowers and Little Duck Girl, as well as voicing the audiobooks Why I Killed My Husband and Satyr of the Subway.
In January 2022, she was interviewed on the podcast The Literary City with Ramjee Chandran.

- The All India Achievers’ Conference in New Delhi presented the Arch of Excellence Award for Literature.
- 2007 LiBeraturpreis finalist from Germany.
- 2008 FLO FICCI Women Achievers Award for Literature.
- Montblanc honored her in 2009 with the launch of the Special Edition writing instrument in India, for her novel contribution to literature, enforcing cross-cultural endeavors, and enlightening experiences that have transcended an inexhaustible diversity of forms – language, cultural, and identity boundaries.
- 2012 Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for her contributions to literature and culture.
- 2014 The Hindu Literary Prize shortlist for Idris Keeper of the Light.
- 2015 Global Ambassador for Women at Expo May.
- Muezza and Baby Jaan received the 2017 Crossword Book Award Jury Award in the Children’s category.

She resides in Bangalore with her husband, Suresh Parambath, and one son.
