What is Prayvaran Vahini Scheme ?

Environment protection includes programme to reduce environment risk associated with the pollutant such as hazardous materials and waste fuel and oils. The Paryavaran Vahini programme  was established by the ministry in 1992–1993 to raise environmental awareness and encourage people to get involved through active participation and reporting illegal activities related to forests, wildlife, pollution, and environmental degradation. Prayvaran Vahini was also to provide information on reforestation and plant survival and to monitor air and water quality, including pollution from vehicles. So far, 184 districts covering all states (except West Bengal) and union areas have been selected for the establishment of Paryavaran Vahini, and these Vahini have been constituted into 130 districts. The Vahini work under the supervision of the District Collectors, who are tasked with investigating complaints received from the various Vahini members and escalating the matter to the appropriate authorities. A Paryavaran Vahin schemei is specially created for each district for some purpose. Districts are selected based on high levels of pollution, tribal population density, and forest cover.
