4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Highland Park Area

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 rattles Los Vegas on Monday afternoon. Los Angeles Fire Department went into Earthquake mode in which every fire department in  106 LAFD neighborhood.

At 3:09 p.m. on Sunday, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake was hits Palos Verdes Peninsula.

4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Highland Park Area: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 rattles Los Vegas on Monday afternoon. The Earthquake struck at a depth of 6 miles around 12:30 pm and the epicenter was located in Highland Park according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake initially struck at a depth of 7.5 miles and a 4.7 magnitude earthquake. People across Los Angeles felt the shaking. It was felt from L.A.’s westside to the Inland Empire and beyond.

A resident of Hollywood said, “The whole building was shaking pretty good.” He added that the station’s engineering team was inspecting the building and “checking things out.”

After the shaking was felt the Los Angeles Fire Department went into Earthquake mode in which every fire department in  106 LAFD neighborhood station conducted a survey and petrol over their area to look for damages to local infrastructure. The process was expected to take almost an hour. Fortunately, there were no reports of extensive damage anywhere.  The U.S. Tsunami Warning System was not triggered which prompts that there is no threat of tsunami due to earthquake.

Thousand of earthquakes are recorded in California each year but most of them are minor. In North America, Alaska is the only state to receive more Earthquakes than California.
