What is the cause of earthquakes?

Even though there are several factors that cause earthquakes, there are three major ones:

Shift in Tectonic plate

Tectonic plates are large pieces of rock that float on top of the asthenosphere, these places move over each other and cause friction. This friction causes the rocks to break apart and send out shockwaves that cause earthquakes.

Volcanoes

When volcanic activities are frequent, the magma moves quickly which causes gas pressure to build up in the crust and affect channels underneath the earth’s surface leading to earthquakes.

Human Activities

Humans also play a main part in the cause of earthquakes, continuous industrial construction and fracking for oils also leads to massive earthquakes.
