2.9 Billion Americans’ Personal Information Got Leaked: A few months prior a group of hackers claimed to have broken into the data broker system and stolen the personal information of the people obviously they were not seriously taken until they shared most of the sensitive stolen data on an online forum.
Almost 2.9 Billion people’s data got their sensitive information compromised, including Social Security numbers, and physical addresses, Engadget reported, citing Bleeping Computer.
A hacking group called USDoD claimed earlier this year in April that they had hacked into National Public Data (NDP). NDP is a platform that provides your information to employers, private investigators, staffing agencies, and others doing background checks.

The group of hackers offered to sell personal data for everyone in the US, UK, and Canada to the forum of hackers but the data seemed to be leaked by different entities.
The class action lawsuit was filed against Jerico Pictures Inc., which was doing business as NPD a background check company that provides to people information “from various public record databases, court records, state and national databases and other repositories nationwide.”
A lawsuit filed against NPD in Florida argued that they “scrape the [personal information] of potentially billions of individuals from non-public sources” and that too without consent.

The lawsuit claims that the breach includes this information “scrapes the [personal information] of potentially billions of individuals from non-public sources” but isn’t limited to them.
The lawsuit argues that no information was knowingly provided to NPD they collected it without the person’s knowledge or consent from non-public sources. The attorney alleged NPD “to properly secure and safeguard the personally identifiable information that it collected and maintained as part of its regular business practices.” but the failed to do so.
What makes the situation worse is that NPD hasn’t even officially acknowledged the breach.
